Shorthorn the one breed that has it all…

Rare Breed Aberdeen AngusThis week at Lothian Meats we have the truly outstanding Shorthorn Beef.

The Shorthorn breed of cattle has evolved over the last 2 centuries from Teeswater and Durham cattle, found originally in the North East of England.

Using established breeding techniques which were successful on Longhorn cattle, two brothers Charles and Robert Colling started to improve these Durham cattle in the late 18th Century. Since that time Shorthorn genetics have been used worldwide in the development of over 40 different breeds.

‘Shorthorn’ beef has superior meat eating qualities, British bred Shorthorn have a beautiful marbling as opposed to the continental breeds which tend to be lean, ensuring that beef is full of flavour.
